Gasoline-powered lawn and garden equipment (GLGE) ranging from string trimmers to stump grinders and tractors is also a source of high levels of localized emissions that includes hazardous air pollutants, criteria pollutants, and carbon dioxide (CO2).
The Village of Ardsley has updated its Noise Ordinance to address concerns about gas-powered leaf blowers. Under the revised law, these machines - known for their loud noise and air pollution - are now included in the village’s official noise regulations.
The updated rules apply to all individuals and businesses working in Ardsley and require that all outdoor lawn and garden work, including the use of gas blowers and mowers, happen only during designated hours:
8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays
10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays and holidays
These changes aim to reduce both noise and air pollution while maintaining peace and quiet in our neighborhoods. Exceptions may be made only for urgent public safety needs.

The good news is that states and cities with well-designed single-use plastic bag bans have reduced plastic bag use and associated litter and pollution. Importantly, bans in five states (including New York) and cities that cover more than 12 million people combined have cut single-use plastic bag consumption by about 6 billion bags per year.
In Westchester County, a ban on single-use plastic carryout bags and a "Request-Only" Policy for food-ware and condiments took effect on September 2, 2023, to reduce waste. Read more
