GET INVOLVED WITH OUR COMMUNITY TASK FORCE
The Ardsley Repair Café joins nearly 70 independent Repair Café locations operating across New York State. Together, these community-led initiatives host events statewide, making New York one of the most active Repair Café regions in the country.
On Sunday, March 1, 2026, the Ardsley Green Task Force officially launched the Ardsley Repair Café, and we couldn’t be more excited about joining the global movement!
Through sustained programming and regional collaboration with the Rivertowns Repair Café, we aspire to:
Divert significant volumes of waste from landfills
Reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with consumer production and disposal
Cultivate local repair skills and volunteer leadership
Foster a culture of sustainability and mutual support
Serve as a model for small municipalities advancing climate action at the community level
The Repair Café movement started in Amsterdam in 2009 and has grown into a worldwide grassroots sustainability network🔧♻️
Today there are over 2,500 Repair Cafés around the world and an estimated 4,000+ community repair groups globally working to reduce waste, teach repair skills, and promote sustainability.
What’s a Repair Café?
It’s a free, community-powered event where neighbors bring broken items, think toasters, lamps, bikes, small appliances, clothing, and more, and get help fixing them instead of tossing them in the trash.
Less waste.
More skills.
Stronger community.
It’s sustainability in action, and it’s actually fun 🥳
Mission
The mission of the Ardsley Repair Café is to reduce waste, lower carbon emissions, and strengthen community resilience by providing residents with opportunities to repair, reuse, and extend the life of everyday household items. Through volunteer-led repair events, skill-sharing, and climate education, we aim to make sustainability practical, accessible, and community-driven.
Working in collaboration with the Rivertowns Repair Café, we seek to build regional capacity for circular economy practices, share technical expertise and volunteer networks, and amplify the impact of repair-based climate action across neighboring communities.
Vision
The Ardsley Repair Café envisions a community where repair is the norm rather than the exception — where residents value stewardship over disposal, share knowledge across generations, and actively participate in reducing environmental impact.
By embedding repair and reuse into the fabric of village life, the Ardsley Repair Café aims to contribute meaningfully to local climate goals while strengthening social connection and environmental responsibility.
If you care about community, climate action, or just love a good hands-on project, this one is for you.
You don’t need repair skills to get involved. We’re looking for neighbors who want to:
Help plan and organize
Recruit and welcome volunteer “fixers”
Spread the word around town
Lend a hand on event day
